Lesson · Critical points

A critical point is an xx-value where f′(x)=0f'(x) = 0 or where f′(x)f'(x) does not exist. A smooth graph can only turn around at a critical point, so this is where peaks and valleys hide.

The recipe: differentiate, set the derivative equal to 00, and solve for xx.

Find the critical point of f(x)=x2−10x+5f(x) = x^2 - 10x + 5.

f(x)=x2−10x+5f(x) = x^{2} - 10x + 5
